Digital Audio Coax Cables are the equivalent to 75 Ohm Video Cables.
Selecting a good Digital Coax cable is the same a selecting a good Video Cable.
You need to buy a cable specific to your needs:
· Do you need a flexible Cable?
o A good flexible Digital Coax cable would be the Liberty Z300NV THX Cable
· Do you need a long run cable?
o A good long run cable will have a larger diameter core conductor the Z300 is 20 AWG.
o RG6 cables are 18AWG will perform better over longer runs 30 plus feet.
· Will the cable be run through the walls?
o An RG59 or RG6 with 2 or 4 shielding layers would be best for long run in-wall use.
· What about connectors:
o RG59 and RG6 cables can be fitted with RCA Connectors. Connectors can either be soldered on or fitted with a compression coax RCA connector.
§ Soldered on Connectors are more expensive but will provide better contact to the core conductor resulting in improved quality and the soldered connection will not be suspect to oxidation like a compression fitting.
o If you don’t want to buy a pre-terminated cable for a long run and don’t have any soldering capability you can always fit the Coax cable with a F-Pin connector and use and adapter to convert the F-Pin to a RCA connector.
