Da-lite DIY Projection Screen Material and Fixed Wall Projection Screens

Textile Backed (Supported ) Projection Screen Surfaces: In this group, the reflective surface is laminated to a woven textile base. The screen surface hangs suitably flat because of the stability of the material and the weight of the bottom dowel. Good for all types of projection. We often recommend this type of material cut to size for trade shows because it is more durable and will with stand the added handling better than an unsupported vinyl. When considering this type of product for a DIY screen remember this material does not stretch so getting it perfectly flat will be more difficult but not impossible.

100% Vinyl (Unsupported) Projection Screen Materials: These projection screen materials are called unsupported vinyl. They are typically used in fixed wall projection screens or roller screens with tensioning capabilities. These materials must be stretch or tensioned to provide a flat viewing surface. Flexible unsupported vinyl are used because they will provide a flatter viewing surface than a more rigid supported vinyl. These unsupported vinyl projection screen materials are great for the DIY home engineer. Simple frames can be created with std wood products that allow the DIY engineer to created a fixed wall projection screen frame at a fraction of the cost of a complete solution.

Do I need Sewn in Borders on my DIY Home Theater Projection Screen? Most of our customers do not need the borders. We consider the borders mostly as a reinforcement for the edges of the material. this reinforcement is really only necessary if you are going to need to set-up and take down the material on occasion. If you are going to create your DIY projection screen and leave it set up than stapling the material to the frame will suffice. We do not recommend face stapling as this can result in pulls. The material should be wrapped around at least to the side (preferably to the back) and stapled in place there. This result in a flatter viewing surface.
